Tot i que l\u2019actitud general envers aquests documents \u00e9s la seva digitalitzaci\u00f3, els professionals de les filmoteques tenen clar que la conservaci\u00f3 d\u2019aquestes obres en els seus suports originals \u00e9s una de les prioritats. Els pl\u00e0stics f\u00edlmics derivats de la cel\u00b7lulosa presenten una tend\u00e8ncia natural a la degradaci\u00f3, i con\u00e8ixer-ne la natura i composici\u00f3 permet identificar-los i gestionar-ne la conservaci\u00f3 segons les condicions d\u2019emmagatzematge que requereixin. Introducci\u00f3<\/h3>\n<p>Actualment es poden aplicar numeroses t\u00e8cniques a l\u2019estudi dels materials pl\u00e0stics. L\u2019espectrometria infraroja per transformada de Fourier (FTIR) constitueix una de les t\u00e8cniques m\u00e9s \u00fatils per estudiar la composici\u00f3 dels pl\u00e0stics derivats de la cel\u00b7lulosa.<\/p>\n<p>L\u2019espectrometria d\u2019infraroigs \u00e9s una t\u00e8cnica d\u2019espectrometria d\u2019absorci\u00f3 que utilitza la regi\u00f3 infraroja de l\u2019espectre electromagn\u00e8tic. Es basa en el fet que els enlla\u00e7os qu\u00edmics d\u2019una subst\u00e0ncia determinada tenen unes freq\u00fc\u00e8ncies de vibraci\u00f3 espec\u00edfiques que corresponen a determinats nivells d\u2019energia de la mol\u00e8cula. Aquestes freq\u00fc\u00e8ncies depenen de diversos factors: forma de la mol\u00e8cula, superf\u00edcie d\u2019energia potencial, geometria molecular, masses at\u00f2miques i tipus d\u2019enlla\u00e7os, entre d\u2019altres.<\/p>\n<p>Si la freq\u00fc\u00e8ncia de la llum incident t\u00e9 la mateixa energia que la que necessita una mol\u00e8cula per vibrar d\u2019una manera determinada, aquesta llum ser\u00e0 absorbida i apareixer\u00e0 en l\u2019espectre d\u2019infraroig, sempre que, durant la vibraci\u00f3, la mol\u00e8cula presenti un canvi de moment dipolar.<\/p>\n<p>Amb l\u2019espectrometria infraroja per transformada de Fourier (FTIR), obtenim un espectre d\u2019infraroigs de manera m\u00e9s r\u00e0pida i amb m\u00e9s nitidesa. En lloc de registrar les dades variant la freq\u00fc\u00e8ncia d\u2019una llum infraroja monocrom\u00e0tica, es guia una llum amb totes les longituds d\u2019ona a trav\u00e9s d\u2019un interfer\u00f2metre, que passa per la mostra i genera un interferograma. En realitzar una transformada de Fourier de la senyal recollida, s\u2019obt\u00e9 un espectre normal d\u2019infraroigs. [1]<\/p>\n<h3>2. Materials pl\u00e0stics derivats de la cel\u00b7lulosa<\/h3>\n<p>Els pl\u00e0stics derivats de la cel\u00b7lulosa van ser els primers utilitzats en la ind\u00fastria del cinema i s\u2019obtenien modificant l\u2019estructura de la cel\u00b7lulosa substituint els grups hidroxil (OH) dels seus anells per grups nitro o acetat, juntament amb l\u2019addici\u00f3 d\u2019un plastificant: normalment c\u00e0mfora per als nitrats, i ftalat de dimetil, triacetina i fosfat de trifenil per als acetats. Tot i que aquests materials presenten caracter\u00edstiques ideals per a la projecci\u00f3 cinematogr\u00e0fica, s\u00f3n molt poc estables a causa de la dificultat d\u2019ajustar el grau de substituci\u00f3 (nitraci\u00f3 i acetilaci\u00f3) i a la p\u00e8rdua del plastificant.<\/p>\n<h5>2.1. El nitrat de cel\u00b7lulosa o cel\u00b7luloide<\/h5>\n<p>El nitrat de cel\u00b7lulosa o cel\u00b7luloide va ser un dels primers pl\u00e0stics artificials, i t\u00e9 unes qualitats mec\u00e0niques i \u00f2ptiques ideals per als suports f\u00edlmics. \u00c9s molt resistent a la tracci\u00f3, la compressi\u00f3 i al desgast, per\u00f2 \u00e9s extremadament inestable qu\u00edmicament i molt inflamable, fins i tot auto inflamable i molt sensible a la llum solar. Els acetats o \u201csafety film\u201d<\/h5>\n<p>Els acetats, o \u201csafety film\u201d, van ser els substituts del cel\u00b7luloide en la ind\u00fastria cinematogr\u00e0fica. El primer acetat, el diacetat, s\u2019obtenia substituint l\u2019\u00e0cid n\u00edtric per anh\u00eddrid ac\u00e8tic, tot i que aquest material tenia una gran tend\u00e8ncia a absorbir humitat, cosa que provocava la p\u00e8rdua de les seves propietats mec\u00e0niques. Va ser als anys 40 quan els fabricants van aconseguir uns materials m\u00e9s estables: els triacetats.<\/p>\n<h5>2.3. Diferenciaci\u00f3 dels suports f\u00edlmics: nitrats i acetats<\/h5>\n<p>Una correcta diferenciaci\u00f3 dels diferents suports pl\u00e0stics \u00e9s una tasca molt important i absolutament necess\u00e0ria per a una conservaci\u00f3 adequada del patrimoni f\u00edlmic.<\/p>\n<p>En principi, no \u00e9s una tasca senzilla, tot i que moltes vegades nom\u00e9s cal una simple observaci\u00f3 directa i una comparaci\u00f3 amb els coneixements i les dades sobre la hist\u00f2ria de la fabricaci\u00f3 de la pel\u00b7l\u00edcula cinematogr\u00e0fica. No obstant aix\u00f2, la seva elaboraci\u00f3 i \u00fas constitueixen una hist\u00f2ria bastant confusa i poc coneguda, amb difer\u00e8ncies segons el pa\u00eds.<\/p>\n<p>En general, per separar correctament els suports inflamables dels de seguretat, els arxius han de partir d\u2019estudis fiables sobre els diferents per\u00edodes de transici\u00f3 entre materials, i realitzar un examen organol\u00e8ptic rotlle a rotlle, atenent tamb\u00e9 a cada un dels elements muntats a cada empalmament.<\/p>\n<p>\u00c9s m\u00e9s f\u00e0cil diferenciar els nitrats dels altres suports cel\u00b7lul\u00f2sics, ja que existeixen diversos procediments per distingir-los.<\/p>\n<p>Per als diferents suports pl\u00e0stics de seguretat, l\u2019\u00fanic procediment per identificar-los \u00e9s la realitzaci\u00f3 d\u2019una an\u00e0lisi qu\u00edmica.<\/p>\n<p>\u00c9s totalment imprescindible la separaci\u00f3 dels suports de nitrats i acetats. Aquests suports han de ser acondicionats i conservats en arxius diferenciats i en condicions de conservaci\u00f3 molt diferents.<\/p>\n<p>Els productes de degradaci\u00f3 alliberats per un determinat tipus de pl\u00e0stic poden provocar la degradaci\u00f3 de la resta si es conserven en un mateix arxiu. [2]<\/p>\n<h4>3. T\u00e8cniques anal\u00edtiques<\/h4>\n<p>Hi ha nombroses t\u00e8cniques anal\u00edtiques aplicables a l\u2019estudi i identificaci\u00f3 d\u2019aquests materials pl\u00e0stics. Tamb\u00e9 les t\u00e8cniques d\u2019espectrosc\u00f2pia vibracional (FTIR i Raman), fins fa poc inaccessibles per a moltes institucions, s\u00f3n molt m\u00e9s precises a l\u2019hora d\u2019identificar pol\u00edmers i altres subst\u00e0ncies com additius i c\u00e0rregues. L\u2019espectrosc\u00f2pia FTIR<\/h5>\n<p>Aquesta t\u00e8cnica, com ja s\u2019ha comentat, es basa en l\u2019estudi dels diferents modes de vibraci\u00f3 de les mol\u00e8cules provocats per l\u2019absorci\u00f3 de la radiaci\u00f3 infraroja, que en aquest cas es troba en el rang de 4000 a 400 cm\u207b\u00b9.<\/p>\n<p>Aquestes vibracions, que modifiquen la longitud i els angles dels enlla\u00e7os, poden ser degudes a tensions i\/o deformacions dels enlla\u00e7os de la mol\u00e8cula. La radiaci\u00f3 ha de tenir la energia adequada per produir l\u2019excitaci\u00f3n i la vibraci\u00f3 corresponent dels enlla\u00e7os, i a m\u00e9s, generar una variaci\u00f3 de la c\u00e0rrega, \u00e9s a dir, una modificaci\u00f3 del moment dipolar.<\/p>\n<p>L\u2019espectre d\u2019infraroigs obtingut s\u2019ha de comparar amb una biblioteca o arxiu espectral, i aix\u00ed es poden associar una s\u00e8rie de bandes a cadascun dels grups qu\u00edmics determinats, especialment a la zona d\u2019alta energia, i identificar la resta de l\u2019estructura del compost a la zona fingerprint.<\/p>\n<p>L\u2019espectrosc\u00f2pia infraroja per transformada de Fourier \u00e9s, a m\u00e9s, una t\u00e8cnica molt adequada per a la caracteritzaci\u00f3 de materials pl\u00e0stics, ja que ofereix una resoluci\u00f3 espectral alta i nom\u00e9s requereix una quantitat molt petita de mostra, que no es deteriora durant l\u2019an\u00e0lisi, per la qual cosa pot reutilitzar-se diverses vegades.<\/p>\n<p>La radiaci\u00f3 ha de passar a trav\u00e9s de la mostra, i si aix\u00f2 no \u00e9s possible, cal preparar-la adequadament. Normalment es trituren les mostres en un morter d\u2019\u00e0gata amb bromur de potassi (KBr) i es comprimeixen en una pastilla d\u2019uns 13 mm de di\u00e0metre. Quan el material pl\u00e0stic t\u00e9 un comportament que impedeix aquesta t\u00e8cnica, es pot dissoldre el pol\u00edmer i mesclar-lo amb KBr un cop evaporat el dissolvent, per formar la pastilla amb l\u2019analit.<\/p>\n<p>Una t\u00e8cnica alternativa, que no requereix preparaci\u00f3 de mostra, \u00e9s l\u2019espectrosc\u00f2pia infraroja amb reflexi\u00f3 total atenuada (FTIR-ATR). Tot i que ofereix una an\u00e0lisi superficial, tamb\u00e9 \u00e9s adequada per a la identificaci\u00f3 de materials pl\u00e0stics i d\u2019altres subst\u00e0ncies com plastificants i additius. [3]<\/p>\n<h4>4. Conclusions<\/h4>\n<p>La identificaci\u00f3 i diferenciaci\u00f3 dels diferents materials pl\u00e0stics utilitzats en la ind\u00fastria cinematogr\u00e0fica \u00e9s essencial a l\u2019hora d\u2019aplicar les estrat\u00e8gies de conservaci\u00f3 adequades, ja que, com sabem, aquests materials poden ser molt inestables i, a m\u00e9s, poden generar productes de degradaci\u00f3 que afecten la resta d\u2019elements emmagatzemats al mateix lloc.<\/p>\n<p>La correcta identificaci\u00f3 del tipus de material pl\u00e0stic tamb\u00e9 \u00e9s important perqu\u00e8 aporta dades i informaci\u00f3 sobre el que s\u2019hi ha registrat.
